Floral motifs in Traditional Japanese Tattooing - Part 1 Cherry blossoms

Traditional Japanese tattooing is typically created with three main elements, Background or “Gakubori”, the main subject matter, and an often overlooked complimentary floral element.

Floral elements are an important element of Traditional Japanese tattooing. They have a variety of meanings in Japanese culture, and when paired correctly with the right subject matter, they can create a harmonious tattoo rich with history and tradition.

Cherry blossoms or “sakura” represent beauty and the fragility of life in Japanese culture. They are a spring blossom that bloom in abundance throughout Japan and are the centre of their festival culture. Their blossoming period is quite short, and they are susceptible to wind and rain. The flower falls off the tree in full bloom, each perfect and bright petal falling to the ground. The use of this flower in Japanese art or tattoos symbolise the transience of life, and have been often used as a metaphor for a warrior killed early in life. This flower can be paired with most subject matter, but is particularly synonymous with Koi and the traditional folk tale of the koi travelling up a wasteful to become a dragon. Typically signifying triumph over adversity.

We are "RED LIGHT" ready BABY!

As we head back in to the “Red Light” setting of the governments Covid 19 protection frame work, we are still operating strictly as a private, appointment only studio.

We are increasing our already diligent cleaning schedules, and have secured KN95 masks for staff and any clients that request one. Our Studio is large and spacious, making social distancing easy for our clients and staff.

We have some state of the art air purifiers purchase, and in transit from the US. These help decontaminate the air as well as help to kill most indoor airborne viruses.

Moving into the “Red Light” setting requires our clients full cooperation and we ask that you please follow the guidelines below.

  • Sign in using the Covid Tracer app upon arrival.

  • Please bring your “My vaccine pass” and have it ready to present to our shop manager upon arrival.

  • Please wear a mask! if you forget one we have spare masks available. But please try to bring your own and wear it upon arrival

  • Please come to your appointment alone. This is crucial in being able to keep everyone in the studio social distanced. The less people in the shop the less we are exposing our clients and staff to potential infection.

  • If you are unwell or have ANY cold or flu symptoms please contact us to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. No deposits will be lost for rescheduling your appointment due to being unwell or having to isolate.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and cooperation, we are still just as fun to hang out with as always. Just with a few more rules than usual.
